What is the role of the artist in treacherous times?
On December 14th, 1957, French-Algerian writer and philosopher of the Absurd, Albert Camus gave a speech at The University of Uppsala, Sweden, days after winning the Nobel Prize for Literature. In the speech, he rejected nihilism and called on writers and artists working in a dangerous age to keep creating, to challenge the status quo, and to speak up for those who cannot.
On Saturday July 12th, join us at The Skylark Chess Society, 4201 N. Ravenswood Ave, Chicago, for an intimate reading and salon discussion of Camus' message and the importance of art and artists in times like these.
